The successful candidate will be confident managing complex site conditions, coordinating multiple work fronts and resolving construction issues promptly and effectively.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, supervise and coordinate open-cut utility installation, repairs, connections, reinstatement and pipe bursting activities.
- Interpret construction drawings, utility records, specifications, method statements and risk assessments.
- Manage daily site operations, labour, plant, materials, logistics and subcontractor performance.
- Ensure excavation, trench support, dewatering, lifting and confined-space activities are properly controlled.
- Monitor progress against programme and provide accurate updates, forecasts and productivity reports.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, inspectors, utility owners, local authorities and affected stakeholders.
- Carry out regular inspections to verify workmanship, testing, commissioning and reinstatement requirements.
- Promote a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with legislation, site procedures and environmental controls.
- Identify risks, implement corrective actions and maintain clear records of incidents, inspections and site activity.
About you
You will have substantial experience supervising underground wet utility or civil engineering projects, with a strong practical understanding of pipe installation, trenching, temporary works and trenchless techniques. Experience with pipe bursting, live services, traffic management and working in congested urban environments would be highly advantageous.
Strong communication, leadership and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to read technical information and make sound decisions under pressure. Relevant construction qualifications, site safety training and a recognised supervisory or management accreditation are desirable. A full driving licence and flexibility to work across active project sites may also be required.
In return, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to technically challenging infrastructure projects within a professional, safety-focused team.
