Senior Traveling Superintendent - Detention / Justice
We are seeking an experienced Senior Traveling Superintendent to oversee the construction and delivery of detention, correctional, courthouse, and other justice-sector facilities across multiple locations. This role will provide hands-on leadership from preconstruction through project closeout, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved plans, specifications, schedules, budgets, and applicable regulations. Extensive travel is required, with assignments based at project sites for the duration of construction.
Responsibilities include coordinating daily field operations; supervising project engineers, assistant superintendents, subcontractors, and trade partners; reviewing drawings, submittals, and requests for information; monitoring project schedules and milestones; and maintaining high standards of workmanship and quality control. The successful candidate will lead site logistics and coordination meetings, identify and resolve construction issues, track materials and equipment, support inspections and testing, and maintain accurate field documentation. They will also partner closely with project managers, architects, consultants, owners, and public-sector stakeholders to communicate progress, manage expectations, and ensure timely decision-making. Experience working in secure or occupied environments, including facilities with strict access, phasing, safety, and operational requirements, is highly valued.
Candidates should bring significant commercial construction experience, including a proven record of successfully managing complex, large-scale projects in a superintendent or senior field leadership capacity. Experience with detention, justice, institutional, healthcare, or similarly regulated facilities is preferred. Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, project scheduling, site safety requirements, quality assurance, and building codes is essential. The role requires excellent communication, organization, problem-solving, and leadership skills, along with the ability to work independently and adapt to changing project conditions. Proficiency with construction management and scheduling software is desirable. A degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is beneficial, though equivalent experience will be considered.
