Field Biologist (Field Based)

We are seeking a Field Biologist to support ecological surveys, environmental assessments and biodiversity monitoring across a range of field locations. This is a field-based role involving regular travel, outdoor work and practical engagement with habitats, species and land-use projects. You will plan and undertake surveys in accordance with relevant legislation, recognised methodologies and project requirements, while maintaining high standards of scientific integrity, health and safety, and professional conduct.

Key responsibilities will include carrying out habitat and protected-species surveys; identifying flora, fauna and ecological features; recording observations accurately using field data sheets, GPS equipment and digital survey systems; and collecting, handling and storing samples where required. You will contribute to survey planning, risk assessments, method statements and site briefings, as well as supporting mitigation, monitoring and habitat management activities. The role will also involve reviewing field data, preparing clear technical notes and reports, highlighting ecological constraints and recommending practical measures to minimise environmental impacts. You may work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team, liaising with landowners, contractors, clients and other environmental professionals.

The successful candidate will have a degree or equivalent experience in ecology, biology, environmental science or a related subject, together with relevant practical field experience. Strong species identification skills and familiarity with ecological survey techniques are desirable. You should be organised, physically capable of working outdoors in varied weather and terrain, and willing to travel and work occasional evenings, early mornings or weekends when survey conditions require. A full driving licence is advantageous.
