Signalling System Engineer
We are seeking a Signalling System Engineer to support the design, development, integration, testing and maintenance of railway signalling systems. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of safe, reliable and compliant signalling solutions across a range of projects, working closely with multidisciplinary engineering, operations, project management and supplier teams. This role offers the opportunity to work on both new-build and upgrade programmes within a technically demanding transport environment.
Responsibilities will include producing and reviewing technical specifications, system architectures, interface control documents, design reports, verification plans and safety-related documentation. You will analyse system requirements, manage interfaces between signalling equipment and other railway subsystems, and support the configuration and validation of interlocking, train detection, level crossing, point control, train protection and supervisory systems. The role will also involve participating in design reviews, hazard assessments, factory and site acceptance testing, commissioning activities and fault investigations. You will ensure that engineering outputs meet applicable standards, contractual requirements and project schedules, while maintaining clear records of technical decisions, risks, defects and change control.
Applicants should have a degree or equivalent qualification in railway signalling, systems engineering, electrical or electronic engineering, control engineering, or a related discipline. Experience in signalling system design, integration, testing or assurance is required, together with a sound understanding of railway engineering principles, safety management and relevant industry standards. Familiarity with signalling technologies, requirements management tools, engineering documentation and structured problem-solving methods would be advantageous. You should be confident communicating with technical and non-technical stakeholders, capable of working independently and collaboratively, and willing to travel to project and testing sites when required. A methodical approach, strong attention to detail and a commitment to operational safety are essential.
