System Integration Engineer / Deputy Railway System Manager

We are seeking a System Integration Engineer / Deputy Railway System Manager to support the delivery, integration and operational readiness of a complex railway system. The successful candidate will help ensure that infrastructure, rolling stock, signalling, telecommunications, power supply, stations, control systems and operational processes work together safely, reliably and efficiently. This role is suited to an experienced railway professional who can combine strong systems engineering expertise with practical knowledge of railway operations and project delivery.

Key responsibilities will include coordinating system integration activities across multiple technical disciplines and suppliers; developing and maintaining integration strategies, interface registers, verification plans and technical documentation; managing system interfaces, requirements, configuration control, design reviews, testing and commissioning activities; and supporting the identification, assessment and resolution of technical risks, safety issues and non-conformances. You will contribute to factory, site and integrated testing, review test evidence, monitor readiness for milestones and ensure that findings are tracked through to successful closure. The role will also involve supporting operational trials, safety assurance, approvals and handover into service.

As Deputy Railway System Manager, you will assist with the coordination of system-wide engineering decisions and provide technical leadership to project teams, contractors and stakeholders. You will participate in governance meetings, report on integration progress, provide clear technical advice and deputise for the Railway System Manager when required. Applicants should have relevant experience in railway systems engineering, systems integration, testing and commissioning, or a closely related transport environment. A degree or equivalent qualification in engineering, railways or a related technical discipline is desirable, together with knowledge of systems engineering principles, requirements management, interface management, RAMS and railway safety standards. Strong communication, organisation, problem-solving and stakeholder-management skills are essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively across technical and operational teams while managing competing priorities.
