Host Railway Engineer - ALTO

We are seeking an experienced Host Railway Engineer to support the safe, reliable and efficient operation of railway assets and infrastructure. In this role, you will provide technical leadership across engineering activities, act as a key point of contact for operational and maintenance teams, and ensure that engineering decisions comply with relevant railway standards, legislation and safety requirements. You will help coordinate technical delivery, manage interfaces between disciplines and contribute to the continuous improvement of railway systems and processes.

Your responsibilities will include reviewing engineering designs, specifications, risk assessments and technical documentation; supporting the investigation of incidents, defects and performance issues; and providing practical recommendations to improve asset reliability and service performance. You will work closely with project managers, contractors, maintainers and operational stakeholders to monitor progress, resolve technical challenges and ensure work is delivered to the required quality, cost and timescale. The role will also involve participating in inspections, audits, testing and commissioning activities, maintaining accurate engineering records, and supporting change control and configuration management.

Applicants should have relevant professional experience in railway engineering, infrastructure, rolling stock or an associated safety-critical environment, together with a sound understanding of railway standards, systems assurance and engineering governance. A degree or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline is desirable, and professional registration or progress towards it would be advantageous. You will need strong analytical, communication and organisational skills, with the confidence to influence stakeholders and make well-reasoned decisions in a complex operational environment. A proactive approach, attention to detail and commitment to health, safety and continuous improvement are essential. The position may require occasional travel to operational sites and flexibility to support work outside standard hours when necessary.
