Water Resources Engineer
We are seeking a Water Resources Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery of projects involving water supply, drainage, flood risk management, stormwater, rivers, and related infrastructure. This role will suit an engineer who enjoys combining technical analysis, practical problem-solving, and collaboration with clients, project teams, regulators, and contractors. You will contribute to projects from initial investigation and feasibility through to detailed design, approvals, construction support, and completion.
Key responsibilities will include preparing hydrological and hydraulic assessments, flood studies, drainage strategies, water balance calculations, and technical reports. You will develop and review designs for stormwater networks, culverts, channels, detention and treatment systems, flood mitigation works, water infrastructure, and natural waterways. The role will involve using appropriate modelling and design software, interpreting field and survey information, assessing risks and constraints, preparing drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and tender documentation, and supporting construction activities. You may also assist with site inspections, asset condition assessments, stakeholder consultations, environmental approvals, project scheduling, and quality assurance.
Applicants should hold a relevant degree in civil or environmental engineering, water resources, hydrology, or a related discipline, with suitable professional experience in water, drainage, flood, or catchment management projects. Strong knowledge of relevant standards, guidelines, legislation, and technical methodologies is expected, together with practical experience in hydraulic or hydrologic modelling and design software. You will need excellent written and verbal communication skills, sound analytical ability, and the confidence to explain technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences. Experience managing tasks, budgets, and deadlines, along with professional registration or progress toward registration, will be advantageous. A proactive approach, attention to detail, commitment to safety and quality, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team are essential.
