Rolling Stock Vehicle Technician
We are seeking a skilled Rolling Stock Vehicle Technician to support the safe, reliable and efficient operation of a modern rail fleet. Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will inspect, maintain, fault-find and repair passenger vehicles and associated systems in accordance with approved maintenance procedures, safety standards and operational requirements. The role will involve working across scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance, corrective repairs and examination activities, helping to ensure vehicles are available for service and meet required quality and performance standards.
Your responsibilities will include carrying out mechanical and electrical maintenance, identifying defects using technical information and diagnostic equipment, and completing repairs within agreed timescales. You will inspect braking, doors, bogies, suspension, traction, auxiliary, heating, ventilation and other vehicle systems, recording work accurately on maintenance and safety documentation. You will also investigate recurring faults, report potential safety or reliability concerns, maintain a clean and controlled working environment, and work closely with colleagues and other engineering functions to resolve issues. All work must be completed in line with relevant railway standards, risk assessments, procedures and safe systems of work.
Applicants should have relevant experience in rolling stock, rail engineering, heavy vehicle maintenance, automotive engineering, mechanical engineering or a comparable technical environment. A recognised apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent qualification in mechanical or electrical engineering is desirable. You will need strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills, the ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical manuals, and a commitment to quality and safety. Good communication, accurate record-keeping and a flexible approach are essential, as the role may involve shift work, nights, weekends and working in confined or physically demanding environments. Further training and competency development will be provided where required.
