You will lead technical activities from feasibility and investigation through to detailed design, construction support and handover, ensuring that solutions are safe, sustainable, cost-effective and compliant with relevant standards.

Key responsibilities will include managing pavement investigations and condition assessments; developing pavement designs, rehabilitation strategies and maintenance solutions; preparing technical reports, specifications, drawings and cost estimates; and reviewing contractor proposals, construction methodologies and quality documentation. You will provide technical guidance to project teams, mentor less experienced engineers and coordinate with clients, contractors, authorities and other design disciplines. The role will also involve contributing to project programmes and budgets, identifying technical risks, supporting bids and tenders, and maintaining a high standard of quality assurance across all deliverables. You will be expected to promote innovative approaches, including the use of recycled materials, whole-life carbon assessment and digital engineering tools where appropriate.

Applicants should hold a degree in civil engineering or a closely related discipline and have substantial experience in pavement engineering, highway infrastructure or a comparable technical field. Professional registration or progress towards chartered status is desirable. You will need strong knowledge of pavement design principles, materials, construction practices, deterioration mechanisms and relevant national or international standards. Experience with pavement design and analysis software, asset management systems, site inspections and technical report writing would be advantageous. Excellent communication, stakeholder management and problem-solving skills are essential, together with the ability to lead multiple priorities, work collaboratively and provide clear, practical technical advice. A proactive approach to health, safety, sustainability and continuous improvement is expected.
