We are seeking a skilled Traffic Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery of safe, efficient, and sustainable transport solutions. The role will involve assessing traffic conditions, preparing technical analyses, and developing practical recommendations for roads, intersections, public transport facilities, pedestrian routes, and cycling infrastructure. You will contribute to projects from initial concept and feasibility through detailed design, approvals, implementation, and post-project evaluation.
Key responsibilities include undertaking traffic impact assessments, transport modelling, junction and corridor analysis, parking studies, road safety reviews, and traffic signal or intelligent transport system assessments. You will prepare technical reports, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and supporting documentation, while ensuring that designs comply with relevant legislation, standards, and engineering best practice. The role will also involve reviewing development proposals, responding to technical queries, monitoring construction activities, and interpreting traffic data to identify operational improvements. You may be required to coordinate surveys, manage technical consultants, and support the preparation of business cases and funding applications.
The successful candidate will have a degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, transport planning, traffic engineering, or a closely related discipline, together with relevant professional experience. Knowledge of traffic modelling, transport assessment methodologies, road design principles, and applicable highway standards is essential. Experience using software such as traffic simulation, computer-aided design, geographic information systems, or data analysis tools will be advantageous. You should be confident analysing complex information, communicating technical matters clearly, and producing accurate documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences. Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, sound judgement, and the ability to manage competing priorities are important. A collaborative approach and commitment to improving road safety, accessibility, and sustainable travel outcomes are also expected.
