Cultural Resource Specialist

We are seeking a Cultural Resource Specialist to support the identification, evaluation, documentation, and protection of archaeological, historical, architectural, and traditional cultural resources. The successful candidate will contribute to cultural resource management projects across a range of environments, ensuring that fieldwork, research, and reporting are completed to a high professional standard and in accordance with applicable legislation, regulations, permits, and professional guidelines.

Key responsibilities include conducting background research, archival reviews, literature searches, and records assessments; planning and participating in archaeological surveys, site inspections, monitoring, testing, and evaluations; documenting findings through field notes, photographs, maps, GPS data, and site forms; and assisting with the preparation of technical reports, cultural resource assessments, treatment plans, and regulatory submissions. You will help assess potential project impacts, recommend appropriate avoidance or mitigation measures, coordinate with project teams and external specialists, and support consultation with Indigenous communities, landowners, agencies, and other stakeholders. The role may also involve supervising field crews, managing archaeological materials and records, maintaining databases, and contributing to heritage interpretation or public outreach initiatives.

Applicants should have a degree in archaeology, anthropology, history, architectural history, heritage conservation, or a related discipline, together with relevant professional experience in cultural resource management. Knowledge of applicable heritage legislation, permitting processes, archaeological methods, and reporting standards is required. Experience with geographic information systems, GPS equipment, digital databases, and technical writing is highly desirable. The ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage competing priorities, communicate clearly, and maintain accurate records is essential. Fieldwork may require travel, outdoor work in varying weather conditions, and occasional overnight stays. A valid driving licence and the ability to meet applicable professional or regulatory eligibility requirements may also be necessary.
