Highways Engineer - Dublin

We are seeking a Highways Engineer to join a multidisciplinary transport and infrastructure team in Dublin. This role will involve contributing to the planning, design, assessment and delivery of highway and transportation projects, from early feasibility through to detailed design and construction. You will work closely with engineers, technicians, planners, project managers, contractors and clients to develop practical, safe and cost-effective solutions that meet relevant technical standards and statutory requirements.

Your responsibilities will include preparing and reviewing highway designs, junction layouts, road improvement schemes, access arrangements, traffic management proposals and active travel infrastructure. You will assist with the preparation of technical reports, drawings, specifications, schedules, cost estimates and tender documentation, while ensuring that work is delivered to the required quality, programme and budget. The role may also involve site inspections, construction support, design coordination, technical discussions with stakeholders and responding to design queries. You will be expected to identify risks, resolve technical issues and contribute to the continuous improvement of project delivery processes.

Applicants should have a degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, transportation engineering or a related discipline, together with relevant experience in highway or transport infrastructure design. Familiarity with Irish and UK design standards, road safety principles, traffic engineering and relevant statutory guidance is desirable. Experience using design and modelling software, such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, OpenRoads, MicroDrainage or similar platforms, would be advantageous. Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple projects. Professional accreditation, or progress towards professional membership, will be welcomed. A full driving licence and flexibility to travel to project and site locations may also be required.
