Role Overview

A Commissioning Specialist is required to support the preparation, planning, and execution of commissioning activities for hydroelectric turbine‑generator units. This role involves reviewing technical designs, developing installation documentation, supporting field teams, verifying instrumentation, and leading commissioning activities for auxiliary systems and main equipment. It is ideal for a motivated professional who thrives in complex project environments and can balance technical depth with strong field execution.

Key Responsibilities

Preparation & Planning Phase

  • Provide technical support to the project delivery team.
  • Act as a technical liaison for customer discussions.
  • Support field teams through mentoring and technical guidance.
  • Ensure timely preparation of field service documentation.
  • Review engineering designs and recommend improvements.
  • Participate in technical training for site personnel.
  • Document lessons learned, expertise, and best practices.
  • Contribute to quality and excellence in installation and commissioning processes.

Execution Phase

  • Ensure safe execution of all commissioning activities.
  • Perform instrumentation functionality checks.
  • Lead start‑up of auxiliary systems.
  • Commission turbine and generator units.
  • Maintain accurate quality records throughout the project.
  • Coordinate with instrumentation technicians for pre‑commissioning activities.
  • Support site teams in troubleshooting and problem resolution.
  • Assist in resolving complex technical issues on site.

Candidate Profile

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or technical diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Willingness to work on project sites across the USA and internationally.
  • Strong understanding of electromechanical systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects under tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Customer‑focused mindset.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; solid computer literacy.
  • Experience with DasyLab or other data acquisition software (asset).
  • Knowledge of IEEE 115 or IEEE 1248 standards (asset).
  • Electrical or mechanical installation experience (asset).
