Our client, a global leader in hydropower engineering and renewable‑energy solutions, is seeking an experienced Commissioning Specialist to support the installation, testing, and commissioning of hydroelectric turbine‑generator units across major projects. Role Overview
The Commissioning Specialist is responsible for preparing technical documentation and executing the commissioning of hydroelectric turbine‑generator units and their auxiliary systems. Working closely with the Commissioning Manager, this role supports the full lifecycle of installation and commissioning activities, including design review, technical documentation, tooling requirements, instrument verification, system start‑ups, and on‑site problem‑solving.
This position requires strong technical expertise, hands‑on experience, and the ability to work effectively in dynamic operational environments, both domestically and abroad.
Key Responsibilities
Preparation & Planning Phase
- Support project execution teams on installation and commissioning matters.
- Serve as a technical point of contact for internal teams and customers.
- Strengthen Field Services capabilities through technical support, training, and mentoring.
- Ensure the on‑time development and delivery of Field Service technical documents.
- Review engineering designs and recommend improvements for safety, installation efficiency, and quality.
- Participate in technical training sessions for site teams.
- Document best practices, lessons learned, and areas for continuous improvement.
- Contribute to quality enhancement and operational excellence across installation and commissioning activities.
Execution Phase
- Ensure that all site activities are performed safely and in compliance with standards.
- Perform instrument functionality testing and verification on site.
- Lead the start‑up of auxiliary systems.
- Carry out the full commissioning of hydroelectric turbines and generators.
- Complete quality records as work progresses.
- Coordinate with instrumentation technicians to support pre‑commissioning activities.
- Provide on‑site technical support, troubleshooting, and resolution of complex issues.
- Collaborate with project teams to address field challenges and propose effective solutions.
Candidate Profile
Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree or College Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or relevant professional experience.
- Availability for domestic and international travel to project sites.
- Strong understanding of electro‑mechanical systems.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to shifting priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and customer‑service skills.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with DasyLab or other data acquisition software is an asset.
- Knowledge of IEEE Std 115 and/or IEEE Std 1248 is an asset.
- Prior electrical or mechanical installation experience considered beneficial.
