Senior Business Development Manager - Mining (Consultant / Part-Time)
Location: Flexible across Africa, with frequent travel
A leading renewable energy developer is seeking an experienced Senior Business Development Manager - Mining to help expand its footprint in the mining sector. This consultant or part‑time opportunity is ideal for a senior industry professional with a strong network in African mining, proven commercial skills, and a track record of originating C&I energy opportunities.
This role focuses on leveraging established relationships, identifying opportunities within the mining sector, and progressing qualified leads toward contract-ready projects. Compensation includes a fixed retainer supported by performance‑based incentives.
Role Overview
You will play a central role in driving mining‑sector business development efforts-originating opportunities, shaping proposals, engaging senior stakeholders, and supporting project development teams to ensure opportunities progress to execution. This position requires someone commercially sharp, well‑connected, and comfortable operating independently across multiple countries.
Key Responsibilities
Pipeline Development & Origination
- Identify and qualify new C&I energy opportunities within the mining industry.
- Leverage senior‑level relationships to generate new leads and facilitate high‑value introductions.
Commercial Support & Proposal Development
- Lead the preparation of proposals, business cases, cost estimates, and supporting documentation.
- Ensure opportunities meet financial, regulatory, and strategic bankability requirements.
Client Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with mining executives and stakeholders.
- Support deal structuring and revenue generation across priority mining markets.
Market Intelligence & Strategy
- Gather and analyse market insights, competitor activity, and client feedback.
- Provide recommendations to refine product offerings and strengthen the mining strategy.
Process Improvement
- Support improvements to business development processes, tools, and reporting systems.
Key Competencies
- 7+ years' experience in business development or project development within Africa, ideally in mining or energy.
- Strong senior‑level network in the African mining sector.
- Demonstrated ability to influence decision‑makers at executive level.
- Strong commercial acumen with experience in financial modelling and proposal development.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder‑management skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise multiple workstreams, and travel frequently.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related field; MBA or similar postgraduate qualification preferred.
- Strong understanding of mining operations, C&I power needs, and regulatory considerations.
- Experience working across emerging markets and multi‑country portfolios.
- Knowledge of project finance, investment screening, and industrial‑scale energy solutions is an advantage.
- Fluency in French or relevant regional languages is a plus.
