Utility Services Field Engineer
Utility Services Field Engineer
An exciting opportunity is available for a Utility Services Field Engineer to support the delivery, maintenance and improvement of essential utility infrastructure. Working across a range of operational sites, you will provide technical expertise, resolve field-based issues and help ensure services are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with relevant standards.
You will work closely with contractors, operational teams, customers and technical specialists to plan and complete engineering activities. The role involves regular travel to site and may include working outdoors, in challenging conditions and occasionally participating in an out-of-hours or emergency response rota.
Key responsibilities
- Inspect, assess and maintain utility assets, networks and associated equipment.
- Investigate faults, identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
- Prepare technical reports, work instructions, risk assessments and maintenance records.
- Monitor contractor performance and confirm that work is completed to the required quality, safety and environmental standards.
- Support planned works, upgrades, repairs and commissioning activities from initial survey through to completion.
- Review drawings, specifications and site information to ensure work is correctly planned and delivered.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve technical, operational and access-related issues.
- Promote safe working practices and comply with relevant legislation, permits, procedures and industry regulations.
About you
You will hold an appropriate engineering qualification or have substantial practical experience within a utilities, infrastructure, construction or facilities environment. A sound understanding of utility networks, asset management, inspection processes and health and safety requirements is essential. Experience of supervising contractors, managing site activities and interpreting technical documentation would be advantageous.
You should be organised, solutions-focused and confident communicating with people at all levels. The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently, managing competing priorities and making informed decisions in the field. A full UK driving licence is required, together with the flexibility to travel regularly between operational locations.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to reliable, safe and sustainable utility services while developing your technical and professional experience in a varied field-based environment.
