Senior Water Resources Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to lead the planning, design and delivery of complex water infrastructure and resource management projects. This role will involve working across multidisciplinary teams to develop practical, sustainable and resilient solutions for flood risk management, drainage, river engineering, water supply, wastewater and integrated catchment management. You will provide technical leadership from feasibility through to detailed design, construction support and project completion, while maintaining a strong focus on quality, safety, environmental performance and client outcomes.

Key responsibilities will include managing technical workstreams, preparing and reviewing hydraulic and hydrological assessments, developing water resources strategies, and producing designs, specifications, reports and approval documentation. You will use appropriate modelling tools to assess network performance, flood risk, water availability and climate change impacts, interpreting results to support sound engineering decisions. The role will also involve mentoring engineers and technicians, coordinating inputs from internal and external specialists, contributing to bids and proposals, managing budgets and programmes, and engaging with clients, regulators, contractors and community stakeholders.

Applicants should hold a degree in civil engineering, water resources engineering, environmental engineering or a related discipline, together with substantial professional experience in water, flood risk or hydraulic engineering. Professional registration or working towards chartered status is desirable. You will bring strong knowledge of relevant standards, legislation, design guidance and environmental requirements, as well as experience with hydraulic and hydrological modelling software and technical reporting. Excellent communication, problem-solving and project management skills are essential, along with the ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities and explain complex technical matters clearly. A proactive, collaborative approach and commitment to continuous professional development will be highly valued.
