Senior Wet Utility Estimator
We are seeking an experienced Senior Wet Utility Estimator to support the successful delivery of complex infrastructure and civil engineering projects. You will be responsible for preparing accurate, competitive and commercially robust estimates for wet utility works, including clean water, foul water, surface water, drainage, sewer diversions, pumping stations and associated infrastructure. Working closely with clients, consultants, design teams, subcontractors and suppliers, you will help develop cost-effective solutions while ensuring that all estimates reflect project requirements, construction methodology, programme and risk.
Your responsibilities will include reviewing tender and design information, drawings, specifications and schedules; producing detailed bills of quantities and cost plans; obtaining and evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotations; conducting take-offs and rate analysis; and identifying scope gaps, exclusions, assumptions and opportunities for value engineering. You will prepare tender submissions, maintain estimating records and support the handover of successful bids to the commercial and delivery teams. The role will also involve monitoring market conditions, labour and material costs, contributing to project risk assessments and assisting with the development of estimating procedures and best practice. Occasional site visits and attendance at tender meetings may be required.
Applicants should have substantial estimating experience within water, utilities, drainage or civil engineering environments, with a strong understanding of wet utility construction methods, materials, installation requirements and industry standards. Experience working on infrastructure, highways, residential, commercial or major development projects is desirable. You will be confident interpreting technical drawings and contract documentation, using estimating and quantity take-off software, and working with spreadsheets and digital cost-management systems. Strong commercial awareness, numerical ability, attention to detail and negotiation skills are essential, together with the ability to manage competing deadlines and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels. A relevant qualification in quantity surveying, civil engineering, construction or a related discipline would be advantageous.
