Project Director (Rail) – Bid Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Project Director to lead the development and submission of a major rail bid opportunity. This is a senior, high-profile role requiring strong leadership, commercial judgement and a thorough understanding of rail infrastructure, delivery models and complex procurement processes. You will take overall responsibility for shaping the bid strategy, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and ensuring the submission is compelling, compliant and aligned with client requirements.

Your responsibilities will include leading the end-to-end bid process from opportunity assessment and win strategy through to final submission and presentation. You will establish governance, programme controls and clear accountabilities across technical, commercial, operational, legal, financial and supply chain workstreams. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, you will develop the solution, scope, delivery methodology, programme, risk profile and value proposition. You will also oversee the preparation of estimates, pricing and commercial assumptions, challenge key inputs, manage approvals and ensure all deliverables meet quality, regulatory and procurement standards. Presenting to senior stakeholders and prospective clients, as well as supporting clarification meetings and negotiations, will be an important part of the role.

Applicants should have substantial experience directing major rail, transport or other complex infrastructure bids, projects or programmes, ideally within a contractor, consultancy, joint venture or delivery organisation. You will be a confident leader with a proven ability to influence at board and client level, mobilise high-performing teams and make sound decisions under time pressure. Strong knowledge of rail systems, infrastructure interfaces, construction delivery, health and safety, risk management and commercial governance is highly desirable. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical capability and a collaborative approach are essential. The successful candidate will be professionally credible, commercially aware and committed to delivering a high-quality, client-focused submission.
