Project Director , Technical (Metro) – Bid Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Project Director, Technical to lead the technical delivery of a major metro infrastructure bid and, subject to award, oversee the project through mobilisation and execution. This is a senior opportunity for a strategic and commercially aware engineering leader with a strong background in complex rail, metro, transport or other major infrastructure programmes. You will provide technical direction across the full bid lifecycle, ensuring that proposed solutions are safe, compliant, innovative, deliverable and aligned with client requirements.

Your responsibilities will include establishing the technical strategy, coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams and integrating systems, civil works, stations, rolling stock, signalling, power, communications and operations interfaces as applicable. You will lead the development and review of technical submissions, design concepts, methodologies, compliance matrices, technical schedules, risk registers and value engineering proposals. Working closely with commercial, procurement, planning, construction and operational specialists, you will ensure that the overall proposition is robust, competitive and supported by clear evidence of deliverability. You will also manage technical engagement with partners, consultants, suppliers and client representatives, addressing clarifications and ensuring that key assumptions, exclusions and dependencies are clearly documented.

The successful candidate will have significant experience directing technical functions on major rail, metro or similarly complex infrastructure bids and projects. A degree or equivalent qualification in engineering, construction or a related discipline is required, together with strong knowledge of systems integration, engineering assurance, safety requirements, quality standards and relevant industry regulations. Professional registration or chartered status is desirable. You will be an influential communicator and confident decision-maker, capable of leading diverse teams in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment. Strong commercial awareness, stakeholder management skills and the ability to translate complex technical matters into clear proposals are essential. Experience working in joint ventures, consortium environments or with international project teams would be advantageous.
