Human Resources Manager - rail project
We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to support a major rail project through its construction and delivery phases. This role will provide strategic and operational HR leadership across a complex, highly regulated project environment, working closely with project directors, site managers, employees, contractors and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will help build a positive, inclusive and performance-focused workplace while ensuring all people practices comply with employment legislation, project requirements and organisational policies.
Key responsibilities will include developing and implementing the project HR plan; advising managers on employee relations, performance management, disciplinary and grievance matters; coordinating recruitment, onboarding, workforce planning and succession activities; and maintaining accurate employee records and HR reporting. You will monitor workforce capability, attendance, engagement and retention, identify training and development needs, and support initiatives that promote wellbeing, diversity and inclusion. The role will also involve managing HR processes across multiple sites, supporting industrial relations and consultation activities, assisting with workforce mobilisation and demobilisation, and ensuring that contractors and employees meet all required competency and compliance standards.
Applicants should have substantial experience in a Human Resources Manager or senior HR business partnering role, ideally within rail, transport, infrastructure, construction, engineering or another large-scale project environment. A strong understanding of employment law, industrial relations, workforce planning and contemporary HR practices is essential. You will need excellent communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and build trusted relationships at all levels. Experience working in unionised or heavily regulated environments, supporting geographically dispersed teams and using HR information systems will be highly valued. A relevant qualification in Human Resources, Business or a related discipline is preferred. The position requires a practical, organised and adaptable professional who can manage competing priorities while maintaining confidentiality, fairness and a strong focus on project delivery.
