Structural Engineer, Design (Rail/Metro)
We are seeking a Structural Engineer, Design (Rail/Metro) to support the delivery of complex transport infrastructure projects from concept through to construction. You will contribute to the design of rail and metro structures, including stations, viaducts, bridges, tunnels, retaining structures, platforms, depots and associated civil works. Working as part of a multidisciplinary project team, you will help develop safe, efficient and constructible solutions that meet project requirements, relevant standards and client expectations.
Your responsibilities will include preparing and reviewing structural calculations, design reports, drawings, specifications and technical documentation; undertaking assessments of new and existing structures; and coordinating structural interfaces with civil, geotechnical, architectural, architectural, building services, systems and construction disciplines. You will use appropriate engineering software and digital design tools to produce and check analysis models and design outputs. The role will also involve supporting design reviews, risk assessments, value engineering, site investigations, responses to technical queries and the resolution of construction-related issues. You may be required to contribute to surveys, inspections and condition assessments, as well as provide technical support during project delivery.
Applicants should hold a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and have relevant experience in the design of rail, metro or other major infrastructure projects. Professional registration, or active progress towards professional registration, is desirable. You will need sound knowledge of structural engineering principles, reinforced and prestressed concrete, steelwork, foundations and the behaviour of structures under static, dynamic and environmental loads. Experience with rail standards, design assurance, constructability and multidisciplinary coordination will be advantageous. Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills are essential, together with the ability to manage priorities, work collaboratively and produce accurate technical deliverables to agreed deadlines.
