Regional Rail Director

We are seeking an experienced Regional Rail Director to provide strategic and operational leadership across a complex rail network. This senior role will be responsible for delivering safe, reliable, customer-focused services while supporting long-term growth, performance improvement and regional connectivity. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, build strong relationships with public and private stakeholders, and ensure that operational decisions align with regulatory, commercial and community priorities.

Key responsibilities will include setting regional objectives, overseeing service delivery, and monitoring performance against safety, reliability, financial and customer-service targets. You will lead the development and implementation of improvement programmes, manage operational and capital budgets, and ensure effective risk, compliance and asset-management processes. The role will also involve coordinating with infrastructure, engineering, transport authorities and community partners; responding effectively to disruption and emerging operational issues; and promoting a culture of accountability, collaboration, inclusion and continuous improvement.

Applicants should bring substantial leadership experience within rail, public transport, infrastructure or a closely related operational environment, together with a strong understanding of railway safety, regulation, performance management and customer needs. You will be an influential communicator with the ability to engage senior stakeholders, represent regional priorities and make sound decisions in a complex, changing environment. Commercial awareness, experience managing large teams and budgets, and a track record of delivering measurable service improvements are essential. A relevant professional qualification or equivalent experience is desirable, along with the flexibility to travel throughout the region and work outside standard hours when operational requirements demand.
