Rail Systems Co-op Student
We are seeking a Rail Systems Co-op Student to support the delivery of safe, reliable, and efficient rail transportation projects. Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering and project team, you will gain practical experience across rail systems planning, design, integration, testing, and commissioning. This co-op placement is an opportunity to apply academic knowledge in a professional environment while developing an understanding of the technical, operational, and safety requirements of modern rail networks.
Your responsibilities may include assisting with the preparation and review of engineering documents, drawings, technical specifications, calculations, reports, and presentations. You may support the coordination of rail systems interfaces, including signalling, communications, train control, traction power, electrification, track, stations, and related infrastructure. Additional duties may involve updating project schedules and registers, tracking technical issues and design comments, participating in meetings, conducting research, supporting site visits, and helping assess system requirements and compliance. You will be expected to maintain accurate records, communicate progress clearly, and contribute to continuous improvement in project processes and deliverables.
The successful candidate is enrolled in a co-op or internship program in electrical, electronic, systems, mechanical, civil, transportation, or a related engineering discipline. An interest in rail transportation, systems engineering, infrastructure, or safety-critical environments is preferred. Strong analytical, organisational, written, and verbal communication skills are required, along with the ability to work collaboratively and manage priorities in a changing project environment. Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and an ability to interpret technical drawings and documentation are assets. Experience with engineering software, data analysis, computer-aided design, requirements management, or project controls is also beneficial. Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, attention to detail, initiative, and a commitment to health, safety, quality, and ethical engineering practices.
