Regional Bridge Engineering Manager (Alberta), for COWI in North America
We are seeking a Regional Bridge Engineering Manager to lead and grow bridge engineering activities across Alberta. This senior role will provide technical direction, project leadership and strategic guidance on a diverse portfolio of transportation infrastructure projects, including bridge inspections, assessments, rehabilitation, replacement and new-build design. You will work closely with clients, public agencies, contractors and multidisciplinary teams to deliver practical, innovative and sustainable solutions that meet quality, schedule and budget requirements.
Responsibilities will include managing bridge engineering projects from concept through detailed design, construction support and closeout; reviewing technical work and providing quality assurance; preparing or overseeing reports, drawings, specifications, cost estimates and tender documentation; and ensuring compliance with applicable Canadian standards, codes, safety requirements and environmental expectations. You will mentor engineers, technicians and project managers, support resource planning, contribute to recruitment and performance development, and foster a collaborative culture focused on technical excellence and client service. The role will also involve identifying market opportunities, developing client relationships, contributing to proposals and pursuits, and supporting the continued growth of bridge services throughout the region and across North America.
The successful candidate will hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering, with a focus on structural or bridge engineering, and be registered as a Professional Engineer in Alberta or eligible for immediate registration. Significant experience delivering bridge projects in a consulting, public-sector or contractor environment is required, along with strong knowledge of Canadian bridge design standards, structural analysis, rehabilitation methods and construction practices. Demonstrated experience leading teams, managing budgets and schedules, engaging with clients and overseeing complex multidisciplinary projects will be highly valued. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, sound commercial judgement, and a commitment to health, safety, quality and sustainability are essential. Occasional travel within Alberta and elsewhere in North America may be required.
