RAMS Specialist

We are seeking a RAMS Specialist to support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of reliability, availability, maintainability and safety requirements across complex engineering, infrastructure or operational programmes. You will provide specialist assurance throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring that risks are identified, assessed and controlled in accordance with applicable legislation, technical standards, contractual obligations and client requirements.

Your responsibilities will include preparing, reviewing and maintaining RAMS plans, safety cases, hazard logs, risk assessments, failure mode analyses, reliability models and associated assurance documentation. You will facilitate hazard identification workshops, lead investigations into system failures and incidents, and ensure that appropriate mitigation measures are defined, tracked and verified. Working closely with engineering, project management, design, operations and supply-chain teams, you will monitor progress against RAMS objectives, challenge non-compliance and provide clear technical advice to support safe and reliable delivery. You will also contribute to audits, design reviews, acceptance activities and the production of reports for internal and external stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have proven experience in a RAMS, systems safety, reliability engineering or safety assurance role, ideally within rail, transport, defence, aerospace, energy, manufacturing or another highly regulated environment. You should be confident interpreting technical information, applying structured risk-management techniques and producing accurate, well-organised documentation. Experience with standards such as EN 50126/50128/50129, IEC 61508, DEF STAN, ISO 13849 or comparable industry frameworks would be advantageous. Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder-management skills are essential, together with the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and influence decisions at all levels. Relevant academic or professional qualifications in engineering, safety, reliability or a related discipline are desirable.
