Systems Integration Lead - Light Rail Transit (Testing & Commissioning)
Location: Western Canada
Contract Type: Fixed-Term / Project-Based (18 months)

We are supporting a major rail delivery organisation on a large-scale light rail transit programme in Western Canada. This role will play a critical part in the testing, commissioning, and integration of complex rail systems across a multi-disciplinary environment.

The successful candidate will lead Systems Integration Testing (SIT) activities, ensuring all subsystems and interfaces are validated, aligned, and delivered in line with operational and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, coordination, and execution of Systems Integration Testing (SIT) procedures across multiple rail subsystems
  • Define and implement dynamic testing strategies covering staged construction and commissioning phases
  • Review system requirements, interface control documents (ICDs), and design packages to establish robust validation methodologies
  • Work closely with design, construction, and T&C teams to align subsystem testing with project phasing and readiness
  • Develop and manage test prerequisites, ensuring site readiness for major testing milestones
  • Oversee configuration management and maintain up-to-date system state documentation throughout the programme lifecycle
  • Support the definition and execution of performance demonstration criteria
  • Lead on-site testing activities, driving coordination, readiness, and issue resolution during commissioning
  • Ensure testing covers key operational scenarios, including:
    • Line-of-sight and braking performance
    • Headways and operational speeds
    • Acceleration and deceleration under varying load conditions
    • Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS) validation
    • Degraded mode and failure scenarios across signalling, power, and communications systems
    • Multi-vehicle operations, recovery, and rescue scenarios

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Proven experience in systems integration, testing, and commissioning within major rail or infrastructure projects
  • Strong technical knowledge of at least one core rail system (e.g. signalling, communications, traction power, SCADA, track systems)
  • Experience working on complex, multidisciplinary projects with significant interface management challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement structured testing strategies across staged construction environments
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across design, construction, and operations teams
  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng) accreditation or ability to obtain is highly desirable
  • Willingness to work on-site in a live construction and commissioning environment
