Underground Utilities Project Manager
Underground Utilities Project Manager
An experienced Underground Utilities Project Manager is required to lead the successful delivery of complex utility infrastructure projects from planning and mobilisation through to completion and handover. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially aware and highly organised professional with a strong background in underground utilities, civil engineering or infrastructure delivery.
You will manage multiple projects, ensuring that work is delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards. Working closely with clients, contractors, consultants, utility providers and internal teams, you will coordinate resources and maintain clear communication throughout each project lifecycle.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, manage and deliver underground utilities projects, including enabling works, diversions, installations and reinstatement.
- Develop and maintain detailed programmes, budgets, risk registers and project documentation.
- Lead site teams, subcontractors and supply chain partners to ensure efficient project delivery.
- Monitor progress, productivity, quality and compliance against agreed requirements.
- Manage commercial performance, valuations, variations, procurement and cost control.
- Identify project risks and implement effective mitigation and contingency plans.
- Ensure all works comply with health and safety legislation, environmental requirements and relevant industry standards.
- Prepare regular progress reports and provide clear updates to stakeholders.
- Support the resolution of technical, contractual and operational issues.
- Oversee testing, commissioning, completion, close-out and client handover activities.
About you
You will have proven project management experience within underground utilities, infrastructure, highways or civil engineering, together with a strong understanding of construction methods, utility coordination and relevant legislation. A recognised project management or construction qualification, such as an HNC, SMSTS, APMP or equivalent, would be advantageous.
Commercial awareness, excellent leadership skills and the ability to manage competing priorities are essential. You should be confident working with project management software, interpreting technical information and building effective relationships at all levels. A full driving licence and willingness to travel between project sites may be required.
In return, you can expect a challenging role, professional development opportunities and the chance to contribute to high-profile infrastructure projects.
