SCADA Engineer – EMS

We are seeking an experienced SCADA Engineer to support the development, operation and continuous improvement of Energy Management Systems (EMS) used to monitor and control critical infrastructure. This role will suit an engineer with strong knowledge of supervisory control systems, power networks and real-time operational environments.

You will work closely with control room teams, electrical engineers, software specialists and project stakeholders to ensure SCADA and EMS platforms remain secure, reliable and fit for purpose. The position involves a combination of system configuration, technical support, testing and involvement in improvement projects.

Key responsibilities

  • Configure, maintain and enhance SCADA, EMS and associated control system applications.
  • Develop and manage control displays, alarms, data points, communications and system databases.
  • Support real-time monitoring and control of electrical networks and connected assets.
  • Investigate system faults, communication failures and data-quality issues, implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Prepare technical specifications, test plans, operating procedures and engineering documentation.
  • Participate in factory, site and end-to-end testing, including system upgrades and commissioning activities.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to deliver projects safely, on time and to agreed standards.
  • Contribute to cybersecurity, system resilience, change control and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical guidance and, where required, support the development of less experienced engineers.

About you

You will have professional experience working with SCADA, EMS, DMS or industrial control systems, ideally within the electricity, utilities, transport or process industries. A sound understanding of electrical networks, telemetry, industrial communications and control-room operations is highly desirable.

Applicants should hold a relevant engineering, computing or technical qualification, or demonstrate equivalent practical experience. Familiarity with protocols such as IEC 60870-5-101/104, DNP3, Modbus or ICCP would be advantageous, as would experience with SQL, scripting, virtualised environments and system integration.

What you can expect

This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging systems that support safe, reliable and efficient operations. You will join a collaborative engineering environment offering professional development, varied project exposure and the chance to make a meaningful contribution to critical infrastructure.
