Capital Projects Manager – Utilities
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Capital Projects Manager to lead the planning and delivery of a portfolio of utilities infrastructure projects. This role will oversee projects from initial concept and business case development through to design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover, ensuring they are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
You will manage multiple projects of varying scale and complexity, coordinating internal teams, consultants, contractors and statutory stakeholders. Working closely with operational and engineering colleagues, you will ensure that investment plans reflect current and future service needs, while maintaining a strong focus on value, sustainability and regulatory compliance.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of capital projects across utilities infrastructure and associated assets.
- Develop project scopes, programmes, budgets, risk registers and delivery strategies.
- Manage design development, technical reviews, procurement and contract mobilisation.
- Monitor project performance against cost, time, quality, health and safety requirements.
- Provide clear progress reports, forecasts and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
- Identify and manage project risks, issues, changes, dependencies and commercial impacts.
- Ensure projects comply with relevant legislation, industry standards, environmental obligations and governance procedures.
- Support commissioning, operational readiness, asset acceptance and post-project reviews.
About you
You will have substantial experience managing capital projects within utilities, infrastructure, engineering, construction or a closely related environment. A strong understanding of project management principles, contract administration, construction methodology and health and safety practices is essential. Experience of working within regulated environments and delivering complex programmes involving multiple stakeholders would be advantageous.
You should be commercially aware, highly organised and confident managing competing priorities. Excellent communication and influencing skills are required, together with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels. A relevant qualification in project management, engineering, construction or a related discipline is desirable, and professional accreditation such as APM, PMI or equivalent would be beneficial.
This role offers the opportunity to deliver essential infrastructure projects that support reliable, sustainable and resilient utility services.
