You will take responsibility for developing solutions from initial feasibility through to detailed design, construction and completion. The role involves close collaboration with engineers, planners, environmental specialists, contractors and stakeholders, ensuring that projects meet regulatory, environmental and operational requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to water resources, flood risk and drainage studies for a range of infrastructure and development projects.
  • Prepare and review hydraulic and hydrological models, assessments, calculations, reports and technical specifications.
  • Develop sustainable drainage systems, flood mitigation measures, water management strategies and climate resilience solutions.
  • Provide technical direction and mentoring to junior engineers and support knowledge sharing across project teams.
  • Manage project tasks, budgets, programmes, risks and technical deliverables to a high professional standard.
  • Engage with regulators, local authorities, statutory bodies, clients and other stakeholders to obtain approvals and resolve technical issues.
  • Contribute to bids, fee proposals, business development activities and the continual improvement of engineering processes.

About you

You will hold a relevant degree in civil engineering, water engineering, environmental engineering or a related discipline, together with substantial professional experience in water resources or flood risk management. Chartered status, or active progress towards professional registration, would be advantageous.

Strong technical knowledge of UK flood risk guidance, drainage standards, hydrology and hydraulic modelling is essential. Experience with industry-standard modelling software, GIS and relevant design tools is expected, alongside excellent written and verbal communication skills. You should be commercially aware, confident working independently and able to build positive relationships with colleagues, clients and stakeholders.

This role offers the chance to contribute to meaningful projects, develop your technical and leadership expertise, and help shape resilient water management solutions for the future.
