Water Resources Project Manager
Water Resources Project Manager
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Water Resources Project Manager to lead the delivery of complex projects across the water and environmental sectors. This role will involve managing multidisciplinary teams, coordinating stakeholders and ensuring that projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required quality, budget and timescales.
You will oversee projects from inception through to completion, developing robust delivery plans and maintaining clear communication with clients, consultants, contractors, regulators and internal teams. The successful candidate will bring strong technical understanding, commercial awareness and the ability to manage competing priorities in a changing environment.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the planning, management and delivery of water resources, flood risk, drainage, resilience or related infrastructure projects.
- Prepare and monitor programmes, budgets, risk registers, procurement strategies and project documentation.
- Coordinate technical investigations, feasibility studies, environmental assessments, modelling and design activities.
- Manage project teams and external suppliers, ensuring work is completed to agreed standards and deadlines.
- Build effective working relationships with clients, regulators, communities and other project stakeholders.
- Identify and resolve technical, commercial and operational issues, escalating risks where appropriate.
- Support business development through the preparation of proposals, fee estimates and client presentations.
- Promote high standards of health and safety, sustainability, quality assurance and environmental compliance.
About you
You will have proven experience managing water resources or environmental projects, ideally within consultancy, engineering, infrastructure or a public-sector environment. A relevant degree or equivalent professional experience is required, alongside strong knowledge of project management principles, contractual arrangements and regulatory requirements.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the confidence to present complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. You should be commercially astute, organised and solutions-focused, with the ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team.
Professional qualifications in project management, engineering, environmental management or a related discipline would be advantageous. The role may involve travel to project and client sites, so flexibility and a full driving licence may be required.
