Water Resources Project Manager
We are seeking an experienced Water Resources Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of complex projects across water supply, river basin management, flood risk, drainage and environmental improvement. This is an opportunity to manage projects from initial concept and feasibility through to design, approvals, construction and completion, ensuring that outcomes are delivered safely, sustainably, on time and within budget.
You will be responsible for defining project scope, preparing delivery plans, managing budgets and programmes, and coordinating multidisciplinary teams, consultants, contractors and stakeholders. Duties will include assessing risks and opportunities, monitoring performance, overseeing procurement and contract administration, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulatory requirements, environmental standards and health and safety procedures. You will also prepare clear reports, project documentation and updates for senior decision-makers, while maintaining effective communication with clients, local authorities, regulators, landowners and community representatives. A key part of the role will be identifying practical, resilient solutions that support long-term water security and environmental objectives.
Applicants should have proven experience managing water resources, infrastructure, environmental or civil engineering projects, ideally within the water, utilities, public sector or consultancy environment. You will need strong knowledge of project management principles, risk management, financial control and programme governance, together with an understanding of water resources planning, hydrology, flood risk or related regulatory frameworks. A relevant degree or professional qualification is desirable, alongside membership of an appropriate professional body or a clear commitment to professional development. Excellent communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to prioritise competing demands and build productive relationships. The role may involve travel to project sites and meetings, so flexibility and a collaborative, delivery-focused approach are required.
