An experienced Utility Superintendent is required to lead the safe, reliable and efficient operation of essential utility systems across a busy industrial site. This role will oversee day-to-day activities, maintenance planning and operational performance for services including water, wastewater, steam, compressed air, electricity, gas and other supporting infrastructure.
Working closely with engineering, maintenance, production, health and safety and external service providers, you will ensure utilities are available, compliant and fit for purpose. You will supervise operational teams and contractors, provide clear direction during planned and unplanned events, and promote a strong culture of safe working and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the daily operation and performance of site utility systems and associated equipment.
- Lead, coach and develop utility operators, technicians and contractors.
- Coordinate preventative, corrective and statutory maintenance activities.
- Monitor utility consumption, capacity, reliability, quality and operating costs.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, permits, company procedures and industry standards.
- Support incident investigations, risk assessments, audits and emergency response planning.
- Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, sustainability, resilience and cost effectiveness.
- Prepare operational reports, maintenance plans, budgets and performance updates for senior stakeholders.
- Manage contractor performance, safe systems of work and permit-to-work requirements.
About you
You will have substantial experience managing utilities within a manufacturing, processing, energy or similarly regulated environment. A strong understanding of mechanical and electrical utility systems is essential, together with experience of compliance, maintenance management and operational troubleshooting.
You should be a confident people leader with excellent communication and organisational skills. The ability to prioritise competing demands, make sound decisions under pressure and build effective working relationships is vital. A relevant technical qualification, such as an HNC, HND or degree in engineering, facilities management or a related discipline, would be advantageous.
This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of critical infrastructure and make a measurable contribution to operational performance, safety and sustainability.
