Preconstruction Manager
Preconstruction Manager
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Preconstruction Manager to lead the planning, coordination and commercial development of construction projects from initial enquiry through to contract award. This role will suit a proactive construction professional who can combine technical knowledge, commercial awareness and strong stakeholder management skills.
You will be responsible for establishing effective preconstruction strategies, coordinating internal teams and ensuring that tenders are developed accurately, competitively and in line with client requirements. Working closely with design, commercial, planning and operational colleagues, you will help shape buildable, cost-effective solutions while maintaining high standards of quality, safety and compliance.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the preconstruction process from early engagement and feasibility through to submission and handover.
- Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications and project requirements to identify risks, opportunities and information gaps.
- Coordinate estimators, designers, planners, consultants and specialist subcontractors throughout the tender period.
- Develop and maintain procurement, design, programme, risk and value engineering strategies.
- Prepare and present tender proposals, ensuring submissions are commercially robust, technically compliant and delivered on time.
- Lead client, consultant and supply chain meetings, recording actions and driving progress against key deadlines.
- Support cost planning, buildability reviews, programme development and the assessment of alternative construction methods.
- Ensure successful projects are handed over effectively to the delivery team, with clear records, assumptions and agreed responsibilities.
About you
You will have proven experience in a preconstruction, estimating, design management or project management role within the construction or building services sector. A strong understanding of construction methods, contracts, procurement routes, health and safety, and relevant legislation is essential.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills are required, together with the ability to manage competing priorities and influence stakeholders at all levels. You should be commercially astute, highly organised and confident interpreting technical information. Experience using estimating, planning or document management software would be advantageous, as would a relevant construction or surveying qualification.
This is an excellent opportunity to play a central role in securing and shaping high-quality projects while contributing to continuous improvement across the preconstruction function.
