Construction Railway Operations Manager

We are seeking an experienced Construction Railway Operations Manager to lead the safe, efficient and coordinated delivery of railway construction activities across a complex infrastructure environment. The role will oversee operational planning, site coordination and day-to-day railway interfaces, ensuring that construction works are delivered in accordance with approved programmes, safety standards, engineering requirements and relevant railway regulations.

You will manage operational teams, contractors and specialist suppliers, coordinating possessions, isolations, access arrangements, site logistics and work sequencing. Responsibilities will include developing and maintaining operational plans, reviewing method statements and risk assessments, monitoring progress against milestones, and resolving issues that may affect safety, quality, cost or programme. You will work closely with project managers, engineering teams, train operations, signalling and electrical specialists, safety professionals and external stakeholders to ensure construction activities are integrated effectively with railway operations. You will also lead briefings, support incident investigations, promote a strong safety culture and provide clear operational reporting to senior project leadership.

The successful candidate will have substantial experience managing railway construction or infrastructure operations, ideally within a live or operational railway environment. You will have a strong understanding of railway rules, possession management, safe systems of work, site access controls and construction delivery processes. Excellent leadership, communication and decision-making skills are essential, together with the ability to manage competing priorities and respond calmly to changing circumstances. Relevant professional qualifications in rail operations, construction management, engineering or a related discipline are desirable, as is experience working with multidisciplinary teams and delivery partners. A proactive approach, attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement will be key to succeeding in this position.
