Railway Signalling Tester

We are seeking an experienced Railway Signalling Tester to support the safe installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance of signalling systems across rail infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will work in accordance with approved testing strategies, project plans, engineering standards and railway safety procedures, helping to ensure that signalling assets perform reliably before entering operational service.

Responsibilities will include interpreting signalling schemes, design documents, test specifications and wiring diagrams; carrying out functional, operational and integration testing of equipment and systems; identifying, recording and resolving defects; and completing accurate test documentation, handover records and safety reports. You will collaborate with signalling engineers, installation teams, project managers, operators and other contractors to coordinate testing activities and minimise disruption. The role may involve testing points, signals, track circuits, axle counters, level crossings, interlockings, control systems, train detection equipment and associated communication or power interfaces. You may also be required to support fault-finding, site inspections, possessions, night shifts and commissioning activities at locations across the rail network.

Applicants should have proven experience in railway signalling testing, commissioning or maintenance, with a sound understanding of railway operating principles, signalling control systems and relevant technical standards. Knowledge of relay-based, electronic or computer-based interlocking systems is desirable, along with the ability to read technical drawings and use testing instruments safely and effectively. Appropriate rail safety competencies and relevant professional or technical qualifications are required. You should be methodical, safety-focused and confident working independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Strong written and verbal communication skills, accurate record-keeping and a willingness to work flexible hours, travel to project sites and undertake additional training are essential. A full driving licence may be required depending on operational needs.
