Signalling Test and Commissioning Tester (Senior)
We are seeking an experienced Signalling Test and Commissioning Tester (Senior) to support the safe delivery, testing and commissioning of railway signalling systems. Working as part of a multidisciplinary project team, you will be responsible for ensuring that signalling equipment, control systems and associated infrastructure are installed, tested and brought into service in accordance with approved requirements, engineering standards and safety procedures.
Your duties will include preparing and reviewing test documentation, test specifications, test plans and commissioning records; carrying out functional, integration and site acceptance testing; identifying, recording and resolving defects; and verifying that completed works meet design intent and operational requirements. You will work closely with signalling engineers, project managers, installation teams, operators and other stakeholders to coordinate testing activities, manage interfaces and support safe entry into service. The role may involve working on live railway infrastructure, possessions, night shifts, weekends and extended site deployments. You will also provide technical guidance to less experienced testers and contribute to lessons learned, continuous improvement and the maintenance of a strong safety culture.
Applicants should have substantial experience in railway signalling testing and commissioning, with a sound understanding of relevant signalling principles, railway operating procedures, testing methodologies and safety-critical work practices. Experience with systems such as interlocking, track circuits, axle counters, points, level crossings, signal controls, train detection, telecommunications or automatic train control would be advantageous. You should be able to interpret signalling schemes, control tables, wiring diagrams, design documentation and test procedures, while maintaining accurate and comprehensive records. A recognised signalling testing or commissioning competency, along with appropriate railway safety certifications, is required. Strong communication, problem-solving and organisational skills are essential, as is the ability to work independently, lead testing activities and make sound decisions in a safety-critical environment.
