Senior Project Director (Roads)

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Director (Roads) to lead the successful delivery of major road infrastructure projects from concept and planning through to construction, commissioning and handover. This senior leadership role will oversee complex, high-value programmes involving highways, interchanges, bridges, utilities, drainage, traffic management and associated transport infrastructure. You will establish clear delivery strategies, ensure robust governance and maintain close oversight of scope, schedule, cost, quality, safety and risk.

The successful candidate will provide strategic direction to multidisciplinary project teams, consultants, contractors and key stakeholders. Responsibilities will include managing procurement and contract strategies; reviewing designs and construction methodologies; monitoring progress and performance; resolving technical and commercial issues; and ensuring compliance with applicable standards, approvals and regulatory requirements. You will lead regular project reviews, provide accurate reporting to senior stakeholders, manage change control and support the resolution of disputes, claims and potential delays. A strong focus on constructability, value engineering, sustainability and minimising disruption to road users and surrounding communities will be essential.

Applicants should hold a degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, construction management, project management or a related discipline, supported by substantial experience delivering major roads or highway infrastructure projects. Professional registration or membership of a recognised engineering or project management institution is desirable. You will have a proven record of leading large, complex programmes in a client, consultant or contractor environment, together with strong knowledge of design development, construction delivery, commercial management, contracts and project controls. Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills are required, along with the ability to make sound decisions in a demanding, fast-paced environment. The role may involve travel to project sites and requires a proactive, collaborative and delivery-focused approach.
