We are seeking an experienced Senior Road Expert to provide technical leadership across highways and transport infrastructure design projects. In this role, you will lead the development and review of highway schemes from feasibility and preliminary design through to detailed design, construction support and completion. You will be responsible for producing and approving technically sound, compliant and deliverable design solutions for roads, junctions, highways improvements and associated infrastructure.

Your duties will include managing and coordinating multidisciplinary design teams, reviewing drawings, specifications, calculations and technical reports, and ensuring that designs meet relevant standards, legislation and client requirements. You will provide expert advice on highway geometry, alignment, pavement design, drainage interfaces, traffic considerations, constructability and value engineering. The role will also involve engaging with clients, contractors, statutory authorities and other stakeholders, contributing to design reviews and risk assessments, and supporting the preparation of technical proposals, cost estimates and programme information. You may also be required to mentor less experienced engineers and contribute to continuous improvement in design processes and technical standards.

Applicants should hold a degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, highway engineering or a related discipline, with substantial experience in highways design and delivery. Professional registration, such as Chartered Engineer status or progress towards it, is desirable. You will need strong knowledge of relevant highway design standards, guidance and specifications, together with experience using industry design and modelling software. Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively within multidisciplinary teams. A proactive approach, sound technical judgement and a commitment to quality, safety and sustainable infrastructure will be highly valued.
