Associate (Tunnel)
We are seeking an Associate (Tunnel) to support the delivery of complex underground infrastructure and tunnelling projects from concept through to construction and completion. The successful candidate will contribute to technical studies, design development, project planning and the preparation of clear, practical engineering solutions. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals on major transport, utilities and civil infrastructure schemes, while developing strong technical, commercial and project management skills.
Key responsibilities will include assisting with tunnel and underground structure design, construction methodology reviews, temporary works assessments and technical reports. You will help prepare drawings, specifications, calculations, schedules and tender documentation, and contribute to design reviews, risk assessments and value engineering exercises. The role will also involve coordinating information between engineering disciplines, contractors and other project stakeholders, attending site visits and meetings, monitoring technical progress, and supporting the resolution of construction-related issues. You may also be required to assist with feasibility studies, option assessments, surveys, inspections and the review of ground, geotechnical and structural information.
Applicants should hold a degree in civil, structural, geotechnical or tunnel engineering, or a closely related discipline, together with relevant professional experience in tunnelling, underground construction or major infrastructure projects. Experience with tunnel design principles, construction techniques, design standards and health and safety requirements is desirable. Familiarity with engineering and project management software, technical drawing packages and document control systems would be advantageous. You should be able to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues, manage competing priorities and produce accurate work to agreed deadlines. A proactive approach, sound judgement, attention to detail and a willingness to learn are essential. Professional registration, or a clear commitment to achieving it, would be welcomed.
