We are seeking a skilled Tunnel Inspector to assess the condition, safety, and performance of tunnel structures and associated infrastructure. The successful candidate will carry out planned and reactive inspections of tunnels, shafts, portals, ventilation areas, drainage systems, access routes, electrical installations, fire protection equipment, and other related assets. You will identify defects, deterioration, hazards, and maintenance requirements, ensuring that findings are accurately recorded and escalated where necessary.

Key responsibilities include completing visual and detailed inspections in accordance with established procedures, engineering standards, and health and safety requirements. You will use inspection equipment and digital reporting systems to document observations, take measurements, capture photographs, and produce clear technical reports. The role involves working in confined, underground, poorly lit, and potentially high-risk environments, including areas subject to traffic, plant movement, water ingress, dust, noise, and restricted access. You will support emergency inspections, investigate reported defects, monitor remedial works, and liaise with maintenance and engineering teams to help prioritise repairs.

Applicants should have relevant experience in tunnel inspection, civil engineering, structural maintenance, infrastructure examination, or a comparable technical environment. A sound understanding of concrete, steel, masonry, waterproofing, drainage, and structural defects is essential, together with the ability to interpret drawings, inspection records, and technical specifications. You must be physically capable of working underground and at height where required, and be willing to work shifts, nights, weekends, or respond to urgent call-outs. Strong attention to detail, sound judgement, accurate report writing, and effective communication are important. Relevant technical qualifications, safety training, confined-space certification, or experience with inspection management systems would be advantageous. A commitment to safe working practices and the ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team are essential.
