Associate Project Director - Roads and Highways
We are seeking an experienced Associate Project Director to lead the successful delivery of major roads and highways projects from inception through to completion. This is a senior role for a confident project professional with strong technical, commercial and stakeholder management experience, capable of directing complex programmes in a highly regulated and delivery-focused environment. You will work closely with clients, consultants, contractors and public-sector partners to establish clear objectives, maintain momentum and achieve high standards of safety, quality, sustainability and value.
Your responsibilities will include leading multidisciplinary project teams, developing and managing project strategies, budgets, programmes and risk registers, and ensuring that delivery remains aligned with agreed scope and business objectives. You will oversee design development, procurement, construction and handover activities, providing effective governance and reporting throughout the project lifecycle. The role will also involve managing contractual and commercial matters, monitoring performance, resolving issues, and implementing robust change-control processes. You will build strong relationships with key stakeholders, facilitate effective decision-making and provide clear, timely updates to senior leaders and project boards. A commitment to health and safety, environmental responsibility and continuous improvement will be essential.
Applicants should have substantial experience managing roads, highways or other major infrastructure projects, ideally within a consultancy, contractor, client or public-sector setting. You will need a strong understanding of project management principles, construction processes, relevant standards and contract forms, together with proven experience managing budgets, programmes, risk and multi-disciplinary teams. Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills are essential, as is the ability to make sound decisions in a demanding environment. A relevant degree or professional qualification in civil engineering, project management or a related discipline is desirable, and membership of an appropriate professional body would be advantageous. This role offers the opportunity to shape high-profile infrastructure improvements and make a lasting contribution to the communities and economies they serve.
