16-North Florida Water - Project Engineer
We are seeking a Project Engineer to support the planning, design, construction, and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects across North Florida. This role will work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, regulatory agencies, and clients to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved designs, specifications, budgets, and schedules. The successful candidate will contribute to projects involving water distribution, treatment facilities, pumping systems, collection systems, drainage, and related civil infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include preparing and reviewing engineering plans, technical specifications, calculations, cost estimates, schedules, reports, and permit documentation. You will assist with design development, equipment and material selection, constructability reviews, bid support, and the evaluation of contractor proposals. During construction, you may perform site visits, review submittals and requests for information, monitor progress and quality, document field conditions, support inspections, and help resolve technical issues. The role will also involve coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, tracking project deliverables, maintaining accurate records, and communicating project status, risks, and recommendations to project leadership.
A bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, or water resources engineering, or a closely related discipline, is required. Professional experience supporting water, wastewater, utilities, or civil infrastructure projects is preferred, along with familiarity with engineering standards, permitting requirements, construction practices, and project controls. Professional Engineer registration, or progress toward licensure, is an advantage. Candidates should be comfortable using standard engineering and project management software, interpreting technical drawings, and working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Strong written and verbal communication, analytical ability, attention to detail, sound judgment, and effective problem-solving skills are essential. The position may require regional travel, fieldwork, and occasional work outside standard business hours to support project needs.
