Estimator II (Electrical) - Federal
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive, and well-supported cost estimates for commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects. In this role, you will review drawings, specifications, scopes of work, contract documents, and addenda to identify labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and general condition requirements. You will develop detailed estimates from conceptual design through final bid, ensuring assumptions, exclusions, risks, and clarifications are clearly documented.
Responsibilities include performing quantity takeoffs for electrical systems such as power distribution, lighting, controls, communications, fire alarm, security, grounding, and low-voltage installations. You will solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations, compare proposals, verify technical compliance, and maintain organized estimate files. The role will also involve coordinating with project managers, engineers, procurement teams, and field personnel; participating in pre-bid and bid review meetings; assisting with value engineering and cost optimization; and supporting post-bid handover activities. You may also be asked to mentor junior estimators and contribute to improving estimating procedures, templates, and cost databases.
Applicants should have a degree, diploma, or equivalent technical training in electrical engineering, construction management, estimating, or a related discipline, along with several years of electrical estimating experience. Experience with major construction projects, design-build delivery, negotiated work, and competitively bid contracts is highly desirable. Strong knowledge of electrical construction methods, applicable codes and standards, labor productivity, material pricing, and subcontractor markets is required. Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets, digital takeoff tools, and construction document platforms is expected. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong analytical, organizational, communication, and negotiation skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining confidentiality and accuracy. Eligibility to work on projects subject to government security, access, or compliance requirements may be necessary.
