An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Preconstruction Manager to lead the planning, coordination and commercial development of projects from early opportunity through to contract award. This role will suit a proactive construction professional with strong technical knowledge, commercial awareness and the ability to bring multidisciplinary teams together to deliver compelling, compliant and deliverable proposals.
You will take ownership of the preconstruction process, working closely with clients, consultants, design teams, supply chain partners and internal stakeholders. The successful candidate will be confident managing multiple tenders and developing robust strategies that balance programme, cost, quality, risk and buildability.
Key responsibilities
- Lead preconstruction activities from initial enquiry and bid strategy through to handover to the delivery team.
- Review tender documentation, identify opportunities and constraints, and establish clear project requirements.
- Coordinate estimating, design, planning, procurement, commercial and construction input throughout the bid process.
- Develop and maintain detailed preconstruction programmes, cost plans, risk registers and procurement strategies.
- Manage design development, value engineering and buildability reviews to achieve effective project solutions.
- Prepare and present tender submissions, including methodologies, programmes, risk proposals and supporting documentation.
- Build productive relationships with clients, consultants and specialist subcontractors.
- Ensure proposals comply with relevant legislation, industry standards, company procedures and project-specific requirements.
- Support negotiations, contract reviews and the smooth transition of successful bids into delivery.
About you
You will have substantial experience in preconstruction, estimating, bid management, design management or a related construction role, ideally gained within a contractor or specialist delivery environment. A strong understanding of construction methods, procurement routes, contract principles, health and safety and cost control is essential.
Excellent communication and influencing skills are required, alongside the ability to interpret technical information, challenge assumptions and make sound commercial decisions. You should be highly organised, commercially astute and comfortable working to demanding deadlines across several live opportunities.
What is offered
In return, you will receive a competitive salary and benefits package, together with the opportunity to contribute to a varied project portfolio and play a key role in shaping successful construction schemes from the outset.
