Assistant Preconstruction Manager – Heavy Civil
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Preconstruction Manager to support the planning, development and submission of tenders for major heavy civil engineering and infrastructure projects. This role would suit a commercially aware and highly organised construction professional looking to develop their career within a collaborative preconstruction environment.
Working closely with estimators, design teams, planners, commercial specialists and operational colleagues, you will help coordinate bid activity from initial opportunity through to submission and handover. You will contribute to developing robust, competitive and technically deliverable proposals across highways, bridges, earthworks, utilities, structures and other complex civil engineering schemes.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation, coordination and submission of tenders and prequalification questionnaires.
- Review client requirements, drawings, specifications and pricing documentation to identify key risks and opportunities.
- Support the development of construction methodologies, programmes, logistics plans and project execution strategies.
- Coordinate information from design consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and internal technical teams.
- Obtain and assess quotations, ensuring scope coverage, accuracy and commercial compliance.
- Maintain tender trackers, registers, action logs and document control systems.
- Contribute to value engineering, risk assessments and the preparation of clarification schedules.
- Assist with presentations, interview preparation and the handover of successful bids to the delivery team.
About you
You will have experience in preconstruction, estimating, bid management, engineering or project delivery within the heavy civil engineering sector. A sound understanding of construction methods, tender processes, contract documentation and health and safety requirements is important. Experience of working on infrastructure, highways, rail, utilities or major structures projects would be advantageous.
You should be confident interpreting technical information, managing competing deadlines and communicating effectively with a range of stakeholders. Strong attention to detail, commercial awareness and proficiency with Microsoft Office are essential. Relevant qualifications in civil engineering, construction management or a related discipline are desirable, although practical experience will also be valued.
What’s on offer
This is an excellent opportunity to gain broad exposure to complex infrastructure bids, work alongside experienced professionals and progress within a supportive preconstruction team.
