Preconstruction Manager
Preconstruction Manager
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Preconstruction Manager to lead the planning, coordination and commercial development of construction projects from early-stage opportunity through to contract award. This role will suit a strategic and highly organised professional with strong technical knowledge, commercial awareness and the ability to build effective relationships across internal teams, clients, consultants and supply chain partners.
You will take ownership of the preconstruction process, ensuring that proposals are carefully developed, commercially robust and aligned with client requirements. Working across a range of project types and values, you will coordinate multidisciplinary inputs, manage tender submissions and support the successful transition from preconstruction into delivery.
Key responsibilities
- Lead preconstruction activities from initial enquiry, feasibility and bid strategy through to contract award.
- Review client requirements, drawings, specifications and construction information to identify opportunities, risks and omissions.
- Develop and manage detailed programmes, procurement strategies, cost plans and tender submissions.
- Coordinate design, estimating, planning, commercial and operational teams to ensure accurate and timely outputs.
- Engage with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers to obtain information, quotations and technical proposals.
- Challenge design and construction methodologies to improve value, buildability, quality and programme certainty.
- Prepare and present bids, presentations, progress reports and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
- Maintain clear records of assumptions, exclusions, risks, opportunities and commercial decisions.
- Support negotiations and ensure a smooth handover to the project delivery team.
About you
You will have proven experience in a preconstruction, bid management, estimating or project management role within the construction or built environment sector. A strong understanding of procurement routes, construction methods, design development, health and safety, and contract principles is essential. Excellent communication, negotiation and organisational skills are required, alongside the confidence to manage competing priorities and meet demanding deadlines.
In return, you will have the opportunity to contribute to a varied portfolio of projects, influence outcomes from the earliest stages and develop your career within a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.
