An exciting opportunity is available for a Project Engineer to contribute to the delivery of water resources, flood risk management and environmental infrastructure projects. This role would suit a technically capable engineer who enjoys working across the full project lifecycle, from initial feasibility and concept development through to detailed design, construction support and completion.
You will work closely with clients, contractors, regulators and multidisciplinary teams to develop practical, sustainable solutions that meet technical, environmental and commercial requirements. The position offers the opportunity to support a varied portfolio of projects, including flood alleviation schemes, drainage strategies, river restoration, water management infrastructure and climate resilience initiatives.
Key responsibilities
- Undertake hydraulic and hydrological assessments, flood risk studies and drainage design.
- Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, calculations, specifications and design drawings.
- Support the planning, coordination and delivery of projects to agreed programmes, budgets and quality standards.
- Assist with site investigations, surveys, inspections and construction-stage technical support.
- Coordinate inputs from internal specialists, external consultants, contractors and statutory bodies.
- Contribute to risk assessments, project documentation, tender packages and commercial monitoring.
- Promote safe working practices and ensure designs comply with relevant legislation, standards and guidance.
About you
You will have a degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, water engineering, environmental engineering or a related discipline, together with relevant experience in water resources, flood risk or drainage projects. Experience using industry-standard hydraulic modelling, CAD or GIS software would be advantageous.
We are looking for someone with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and the confidence to manage competing priorities. You should be organised, commercially aware and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
A professional qualification or progress towards chartership is desirable. In return, you will have the opportunity to develop your technical expertise, take ownership of meaningful projects and build a rewarding career within the water and environmental engineering sector.
