Water Resources Engineer
Water Resources Engineer
We are seeking a skilled Water Resources Engineer to support the planning, design and delivery of projects that promote resilient, sustainable and well-managed water environments. This role will involve working across a varied portfolio, contributing technical expertise to flood risk, drainage, water management and environmental improvement schemes.
You will work collaboratively with engineers, environmental specialists, planners, clients and stakeholders to develop practical solutions that meet regulatory, environmental and performance requirements. The successful candidate will be comfortable managing competing priorities and communicating technical information clearly to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
Key responsibilities
- Undertake hydrological and hydraulic assessments, including flood risk, surface water and drainage modelling.
- Prepare technical reports, calculations, specifications, drawings and feasibility studies.
- Support the design and appraisal of sustainable drainage systems, flood alleviation measures and watercourse works.
- Interpret and apply relevant legislation, guidance, planning conditions and environmental standards.
- Analyse data, review survey information and identify risks, constraints and opportunities.
- Contribute to project programmes, budgets, risk registers and quality assurance processes.
- Liaise with regulators, local authorities, landowners, contractors and other project stakeholders.
- Provide technical input during construction, site inspections and project close-out activities.
About you
You will hold a degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, water engineering, hydrology, environmental engineering or a related discipline. Experience in water resources, flood risk management, drainage design or hydraulic modelling is desirable. Familiarity with relevant software packages, such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, InfoWorks ICM, GIS or CAD, would be advantageous.
You should have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to produce accurate technical work within agreed timescales. Membership of a relevant professional body, or a clear commitment towards professional accreditation, would be welcomed. A full driving licence may be required for occasional site visits.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop your career while contributing to projects that support safer communities, protect the environment and improve the long-term resilience of water infrastructure.
